Maternity Care
Tell us what you want from your birthing experience and we’ll design it around you. From childbirth classes to home-like birthing rooms to a Level II Special Care Nursery that offers some of Indiana’s most advanced neonatal care, Hancock Health supports you and your family before, during, and after delivery.
Private Suites and Amenities
When it comes to having a baby, you should have your way. Once you share your questions, concerns, and preferences with our care team, we’ll partner with you to make your experience as comfortable as possible. And much of that comfort is offered by the birthing suites in our Andis Maternity Unit.
Quiet and comfortable, each of our wi-fi enabled suites offers a private bath, a TV, and a spacious sleeping chair for your partner. But expert care and state-of-the-art technology are never far away. Wireless fetal monitoring and access to other women’s health providers—namely, obstetricians and gynecologists—is available around the clock, as is a Level II Special Care Nursery, thanks to our partnership with Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital.
Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding is recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics as the preferred method of infant feeding due to the many health benefits for both the baby and the mother. Breastfed babies have stronger immune systems, reduced risk of jaundice, and lower rates of infant mortality. Breastfeeding can help lower a mother’s risk of high blood pressure, breast cancer, and ovarian cancer, among other health benefits.
At Hancock Health, every mother and baby receives visits from a certified lactation consultant to help get your breastfeeding journey off to the right start. Our onsite certified lactation consultants will help you understand how your body makes milk, breastfeeding techniques, how to pump, and how to store breast milk safely.
Breast Pumps
Every breastfeeding mother should have a breast pump, and they’re often covered by your insurance. Hancock Home Medical Equipment has breast pumps in stock that can be billed to insurance or Medicaid, as well as other supplies to assist with your breastfeeding journey. If you need help using your breast pump, call our lactation line at (317) 468-4397 to speak directly to a certified lactation consultant.
Mother’s Milk Bank
The Mother’s Milk Bank collects milk from donors who are making extra milk and want to help newborns in need. To find out more about becoming a donor, visit The Milk Bank’s website or call (877) 829-7470. If you’re already a donor, contact our lactation department at (317) 468-4397 to set up a drop-off time.
Advanced Neonatal Care
Thanks to our partnership with Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital, Hancock Health has advanced neonatal care and additional support for high-risk pregnancies. If your baby is born premature or has complex medical needs in our Andis Maternity unit, our neonatal nurse practitioners are available on site 24/7, along with virtual care from their neonatologists.
