Cardiac Risk Panel

$40

Used to evaluate risk for atherosclerotic heart disease and measure inflammation, even when other factors are normal.

Description: The cardiac risk panel includes the lipid panel and highly-sensitive C–reactive protein screening (hsCRP). Lipid panel aids in the evaluation of potential risk factors for atherosclerotic heart disease and includes cholesterol, HDL Cholesterol, Triglycerides, and LDL Cholesterol (calculated). Decreased lipids are found with some cases of malabsorption, malnutrition and advanced liver disease. In abetalipoproteinemia, cholesterol is less than 70 mg/dL.

The hsCRP test is a cardiac screening test. The hsCRP screen measures inflammation from anywhere in the body. Silent inflammation in heart blood vessels is significantly associated with arteriosclerosis, the main cause of heart disease.

Consider getting the hsCRP test if you smoke cigarettes, have a first degree relative (parent or sibling) with heart disease, have hypertension, have diabetes, have a history of high cholesterol or triglycerides, or have had a heart attack or a stroke.

You should not get the hsCRP test if any of the following are applicable:

  • Have had any recent illness, tissue injury, or infection, which can cause general inflammation throughout the body.
  • Have chronic inflammation, such as arthritis.

Preparation: Fast for 12 hours
