Recharge Yourself Before the Fall

September 18, 2023

This time of year can be a chaotic one. With the changing seasons and everyone back in school, you might be feeling more overwhelmed than usual. Maybe that energy you had at the beginning of the school year is starting to leave you now, and you’re having a hard time getting back on track.

Luckily, we have plenty of tips for how to get your groove back.

It’s okay to need a break.

We tend to feel like we’re constantly on the move in today’s world. We’re always hopping from one activity to the next. Taking care of ourselves amidst the sea of chores, obligations, and work can easily fall to the wayside. It’s more than okay if you need some time to reset and recharge. In fact, taking time to look after yourself means you’re not pouring from an empty cup, and you’ll be in an even better position to get all your tasks done.

So the next time you’re feeling like you don’t have enough time to recharge so you can keep doing all the things you do best, give yourself a bit of grace, and remember you are just one person. It’s okay to need a break every now and then.

When your energy is zapped.

Having no energy when you need it is a terrible feeling, but there are plenty of ways to recharge:

Let’s talk about sleep. Are you getting enough? It’s recommended adults get at least eight hours of sleep a night, and if we don’t start our day off well-rested, it can spell catastrophe for the rest of our waking hours. If you’re finding yourself low on energy right from the start, consider getting a bit more shut-eye. Put your phone down early, keep your room to a comfortable, low temperature, and tuck in for a night of much-needed rest.

What about your morning routine? Starting your day off right is just as important as making sure you got the sleep you needed the night before. Take a bit of time for yourself in the morning and do something you enjoy to start yourself off on the right foot. Maybe it’s practicing some relaxing yoga to center yourself, or having a nice healthy breakfast to give you the energy boost you need.

Keep your diet in mind, too. There are plenty of foods that can give us a much-needed energy boost when we’re in a slump. Keep your brain sharp with healthy foods such as fatty fish, berries, eggs, dark leafy greens, and other fruits, veggies, and proteins. With your brain sharp, you’ll be ready to tackle anything the day throws at you.

Most importantly, however, is that you recognize when you’re starting to feel low on energy so you don’t burn out completely. If you’re feeling like you need a break, don’t be afraid to take one. Listen to your body and find a good time to get your energy back and recharge. Give yourself the break you deserve, and give yourself the grace to take it.
