From Farm to Table: How a Regular at the Greenfield Farmers’ Market Makes the Most of Her Visit

July 15, 2022

Summer is finally here, and what better way to welcome the warm weather than with a visit to your local farmers’ market? Located at the Hancock County Fairgrounds, the Greenfield Farmers’ Market is a popular destination for many Hancock County residents.

We asked Anna, a Greenfield resident, about some of her favorite parts of the farmers’ market. Here’s what she had to say:

Q: So, Anna, what was your favorite part of your trip to the Greenfield Farmers’ Market?

A: I loved getting to spend time with my coworker, Alicia, and picking up the ingredients to create meals my family loves.

Q: Ah, so you’re a cook then? What kinds of stuff did you pick up at the market?

A: Lots! I bought fresh tomatoes, a bouquet of flowers, fresh strawberries, and strawberry rhubarb jam.

Q: What did you make?

A: I made my favorite: TikTok Pasta. It’s a recipe that went viral during the height of the pandemic; it’s so simple, I just wing it now.

Here’s how you make it. In an oven-safe bowl, combine your fresh tomatoes with olive oil, honey, red chili flakes, fresh thyme, salt, and pepper. Top with a block of feta and roast in the oven at 4250 until the feta starts to brown and the tomatoes burst.

In the meantime, cook your pasta noodles of choice. Once the tomatoes have burst, remove your dish from the oven and use a potato masher to combine the feta and tomatoes to make a creamy sauce. Combine with your noodles and top with fresh parmesan or other herbs. I used red onion and basil this time.

Q: Wow! That sounds amazing!

A: It was great! I also made a strawberry rhubarb crisp on Memorial Day. It was a keeper for sure. The oats were so crispy and something about the fresh strawberries and jam made it so good.

The strawberry rhubarb crisp recipe is from one of my favorite chefs, Tieghan Gerard of Half Baked Harvest. I’m a major follower of hers and own all her cookbooks. I have never made a recipe of hers that I didn’t like.

Q: Do you have any particular booths or vendors that you recommend?

A: Orchard View Heritage Nursery, Berry Goods Farm, and Fair Farms and Produce! This farmers’ market was great, all the vendors were so kind. I am already looking forward to going back and getting new ingredients to try out new recipes.

Q: Do you have any tips and tricks for first timers?

A: My major tip would be to get there early! It opens at 8 a.m. every Saturday. By getting there early, you’ll get first dibs on all the items, and you’ll beat some of the crowd.

Thanks for all your help, Anna!
