Bladder infection in men

Although bladder infections are more common in women, men can get them too. Signs and symptoms of bladder infection, also called cystitis, in men include

• Urinating often.
• Strong, constant urge to urinate.
• Burning or tingling feeling during or just after urination.
• Low-grade fever.
• Cloudy or bloody urine with a strong odor.
• Trouble urinating, especially if you have a prostate health issue.

You may be more likely to develop a bladder infection if you:

• Have an enlarged prostate, also called benign prostatic hyperplasia.
• Have kidney stones.
• Have diabetes.
• Have narrowing of the tube that carries urine out of your body, also called urethral stricture.
• Had a tube that drains your bladder, also called a urinary catheter.
• Had a procedure done where an instrument was inserted into the tip of the penis.

Bladder infection treatment depends on the cause, but it typically includes antibiotics.
