Hancock Health has again earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for five years in a row with 11 consecutive cycles from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns grades to general hospitals across the country based on more than 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
Hancock Regional Hospital is the highest graded hospital in the state for this cycle and the longest running “A” grade in Indiana. In addition, it also puts Hancock Health among only 4% of hospitals in the country to get an “A” rating more than 10 times in a row.
“At Hancock Health, we prioritize patient safety so patients can focus on feeling their best and getting back to their normal lives,” said Hancock Health CEO Steve Long. “We are honored to receive this Leapfrog Group safety grade again and recognize the consistent dedication of our physicians and staff has made this achievement possible.”
“My sincere congratulations to Hancock Regional Hospital for upholding patient safety standards through thick and thin, achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for 11 consecutive rounds of the Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Consistently earning an A demonstrates a long-term, organization-wide commitment to putting patient safety first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections and injuries that are the cause of mortality for more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
In addition to Hancock Regional Hospital’s “A” Leapfrog Rating, it has also been ranked as one of the nation’s safest by the Lown Hospital Index and was recently recognized by the Indiana Hospital Association for its excellence in infant and maternal health.
