Hancock Regional Hospital Earns Ninth Consecutive ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group

New grade for fall 2024 is a national recognition for patient safety.

Hancock Health, an independent, full-service healthcare network serving East Central Indiana, has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for Hancock Regional Hospital from The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.

Hancock Health joins roughly 30% of 3,000 hospitals across the country and one of only 18 in Indiana to earn a fall 2024 “A” rating. The hospital has achieved an “A” rating since fall of 2020; one of 192 hospitals nationwide and one of only two in Indiana to accomplish this.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade stands as the only hospital ratings program focused solely on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day in the United States. This program is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
