In Pain? Find Some Relief.

September 5, 2024

Every year, Hancock Health sees many patients who are in pain and in search of medicine, answers, and treatments. Hancock Pain Management Center offers a comprehensive approach to dealing with acute and chronic pain to help patients get back to their lives. We spoke to Dr. Aaron Nelson about what patients can expect from the Pain Management Center, and what treatments might be available to them.

You Don’t Have to Live with Chronic Pain

If you’ve been living with chronic pain for a long time, it can feel like there’s no end in sight. But Hancock Health’s pain specialists are equipped to help you find solutions and relief, so you can get back to living your life.

Since pain can cause difficult changes in a person’s life, the team at the Hancock Pain Management Center take their jobs seriously. While Dr. Nelson is available at the hospital for surgeries or high-risk situations, his main location is in the Parkway Building behind the hospital, where patients can be seen for outpatient procedures and other treatments.

“Statistically, spine degeneration and nerve pain conditions are the most common, but I usually describe the most common condition I treat as ‘loss,’” Dr. Nelson explained. “That means the patient is experiencing loss of function, loss of quality of life, loss of activities with family, loss of ability to work, and so on.”

If you’re worried your pain isn’t severe enough to warrant medical intervention, Dr. Nelson urges you to come anyway.

“It’s understandable to be wary, or not like the idea of going, but to not go is to voluntarily limit the options that would be available to help you,” said Dr. Nelson. “If we can help your function and quality of life go up, we want to help. There’s no reason to avoid coming for a consultation and seeing if we can offer something to improve that situation.”

And if you’re worried someone else has worse pain that warrants an appointment more than yours, Dr. Nelson wants you to remember:

“Even if that’s possibly true, that’s still not a reason that you should be neglected,” said Dr. Nelson. “You deserve proper treatment options, too.”To schedule an appointment and learn how the Pain Management Center can help you, call 317-468-4090.
