Support for Survivors: Hancock Health’s SANE Program

March 20, 2023

Sexual contact without consent is one of the most traumatic things that can happen to a person, and if you’ve experienced this, you don’t have to deal with the trauma alone. Last year, Hancock Health instituted a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program to help survivors access safe, accessible treatment in the wake of an assault.

You’ll receive confidential care at no cost

Hancock Health prioritizes the needs of survivors of sexual assault, and services will always be free of charge. You can access treatment from the SANE program through our Knightstown Health Care Center (224 W. Main Street in Knightstown), and treatment is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

The program doesn’t treat only physical injuries. The SANE nurses and nurse practitioners have been specially trained to conduct free examinations that preserve evidence and document stories for law enforcement. Specialists can also provide medications and connect survivors to counseling services or other community resources. Plus, the facility is patrolled for added security.

Here’s how you can reach us

You can contact us at 765-345-5572, and we offer free, private examinations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday. Qualified examiners remain on call around the clock and can be accessed through Hancock Regional Hospital or Henry Community Health.

You don’t have to experience the pain of sexual assault alone. Contact the SANE program specialists today and receive the care and support you need.
