See Community, Kindness, and Unity Through the Eyes of Kids

May 3, 2022

Art holds power, and so does connection. Which is why we were so thrilled to encourage connection within our community by teaming up with Healthy365 and Greenfield Community to offer a contest for kids that not only supports their power and creativity but builds unity.

Well, that and the pure joy of walking through a full exhibition of art showcasing the talent and perspective of kids. Which you can share in, as well. (Read on.)

A Focus on Community, Kindness, and Unity

Back in February, Hancock Health and our partners announced an art contest asking kids within the ages of 5 to 18 to interpret their thoughts, emotions, and ideas about Hancock County, as well as how kindness is a part of the community, into an art piece. Although the contest was envisioned as a fun, joyful exercise for artists and viewers, it has a deeper mission, too.

“Everyone expresses themselves and copes with things like stress and anxiety in different ways,” said Amanda Everidge, Healthy365 director of community health improvement. “Art is a great example of expressing yourself and can be used as an effective coping skill for people of all ages.”

Celebrating Kids’ Art

Maybe you’re looking for a bit of inspiration. Or a release from some stress of your own. Or, heck, an excuse to stroll through a lot of interesting, creative work. We’re excited to host an exhibition of contest winners at Hancock Regional Hospital and Healthy365 Connection Center

Come have a look at winning creations from each of six age categories. Judged for execution, uniqueness, and artistry of concept, entries will be awarded first, second, and third place for each age group. We’ll also be showing off the Greenfield Community Readers’ Choice winner.

As Ossie Davis put it, “Any form of art is a form of power; it has impact, it can affect change—it can not only move us, it makes us move.”

Find out how local kids have been moved to create and how that might move you, too. Watch for more information about a ceremony unveiling the winners, and be sure to stop by to check out the exhibit, which we’ll have ready for you in May.
