Super Bowl LVI is right around the corner, so now’s the perfect time to do a little Pro Football Hall of Fame name-dropping. Thanks to Hancock Regional Hospital’s new partnership with the Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent, we can claim a connection to one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time.
The partnership with Manning’s namesake hospital, which began in November 2021, creates a Level II Special Care Nursery at Hancock Regional. A new nursery at our hospital is specially equipped for moderately ill infants and babies born as early as 32 weeks gestation. It allows Hancock Regional to care for infants who need oxygen, IV fluids or medications, help with feeding, or just some extra care or supervision before going home.
Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital neonatal nurse practitioners are also on-site at Hancock Regional; when the nurse practitioners need it, they have constant access to Peyton Manning’s neonatologists.
Not only does the partnership create extra peace of mind for Hancock Regional’s delivering mothers—knowing that extra help is on-site if it’s needed—but it also makes us grateful for the leadership role Manning has taken in pediatric healthcare.
Off The Field: Manning’s Legacy
Manning, who played for the Indianapolis Colts from 1998 to 2011 and led the team to its Super Bowl XLI championship, was a regular at the hospital even before it was named after him in 2007. He was known for dropping in on pediatric patients and staff, using his star power to raise morale.
Those visits have continued over the years and his role at the hospital has grown to one of leadership. Manning is even consulted about strategic decisions. He also hosts an annual holiday party for patients and staff, calls patients, and sends encouraging videos.
Manning’s support brings in millions, too. Since 2008, Manning and his wife, Ashley, have served as honorary chairs for the hospital’s annual Celebration of Caring Gala, which has raised over $14 million. They attend the event, and Manning usually secures a major country music star to perform. That’s in addition to the amount he has donated, which has not been made public.
