B&C’s Hideout, one of Hancock County’s most popular restaurants, recently launched a heart-healthy menu treating customers to not only big flavor, but also to improve health options.

“We know that there are many people in our community who want healthier foods.  Whether they are watching their cholesterol or something else, we want to be able to help them have a good dining experience and healthy food at the same time,” said Nate Miller, owner of B&C’s Hideout.

By interacting personally with his customers, Nate Miller has made many innovative healthy additions to the menu.

Heart-Healthy Grilled Salmon

Packed full of vitamins and heart-healthy Omega-3 fats, salmon is one of the healthiest diet options for those watching their cholesterol. In fact, the American Heart Association recommends two salmon servings per week as a key step to improving heart health. Matching this recommendation, B&C’s Hideout offers delicious grilled salmon with a variety of flavor options.

Flavorful Fish Tacos

The newest menu addition of fish tacos, grilled or blackened, offer customers a flavor-packed healthy alternative to the popular taco craze. “Six months ago, I’d never had a fish taco,” said Nate Miller. “But, after a trip to Florida and some experimenting with some of my expert chefs and friends, we’ve created a great fish taco option for customers in our kitchen.” The health benefits of the tacos are not only in the healthy-fat option provided by fish, but B&C’s Hideout also adds fresh Pico de Gallo and a homemade avocado tartar sauce which packs even more vegetables and Omega-3s for heart health.Salmon from B&C's Hideout

Healthy Choice Menu Designations

As customers browse the menu, Miller has made it a priority to identify the healthiest selections with a quick glance. “We want to help people as much as we can,” said Miller. “We added a healthy-choice icon to our menu so that customers can quickly see what selections might meet health needs, if they have one.”

Customer Requests

In addition to his own ideas, Miller and his team take great pride in fulfilling customer requests, including healthy requests. “We always try to use our best judgment for creating menu options. Sometimes, the best ideas come from our customers,” said Miller. For example, several years ago, a customer who had previously lived in New Orleans contacted the restaurant and shared her homesick desire for Cajun cuisine. Meeting her request, Nate created a B&C’s Hideout specialty, the Bayou chicken sandwich:  a healthy, blackened chicken paired with a Cajun mayo.

“Having a healthy community is very important and I want to help, if I can,” said Miller. “The people I meet and the people we can help are the best part about the restaurant business. It’s a great perk that I never envisioned.”
