As we prepare to celebrate this milestone anniversary throughout 2026, we reflect with gratitude on where we’ve been and look forward with excitement to where we’re going.
Where It Started: A Dream Comes to Life in 1951
Hancock Health started as a dream by Greenfield resident Fannie Andis. After losing her only child at birth, she came to believe strongly that having access to healthcare locally could be life-changing for Hancock County. She made it her personal mission to bring a hospital to Greenfield, Indiana. That conviction included donating 12 acres of land to Hancock County as the site where our hospital stands today.
In 1951, Mrs. Andis saw her dream become a reality when Hancock Memorial Hospital opened its doors, providing maternity care close to home and setting the foundation for what Hancock Health would become. Over the years, Hancock Health has continued to expand its healthcare services, attracting exceptional providers to best serve our community with a high standard of care.
Hancock Health Milestones Across 75 Years
- 1951: Hancock Memorial Hospital opens
- 1982: Fundación de Salud Hancock established
- 1994: Hancock joins the Suburban Health Organization (SHO) with other area hospitals to form a hospital and healthcare provider network serving Indiana
- 2000: Centro de bienestar Hancock opens in Greenfield
- 2005: Hancock Memorial Hospital renamed Hospital Regional Hancock
- 2012: Hancock Health partners with St. Vincent Heart Center
- 2015: Centro Oncológico Sue Ann Wortman opens
- 2016: Hancock Wellness Center in McCordsville opens
- 2019: GatewayHancock Health opens
- 2020: Hancock Wellness Center in New Palestine opens
- 2021: Hancock Health announces partnership with Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St. Vincent to offer a Level II Special Care Nursery
- 2022: Hancock Health joins the Red de atención de Mayo Clinic
- 2025: Hancock Health announces partnership with OrthoIndy to become the exclusive provider of orthopedic services

Nuestro Future in Focus Campaign is an active 2026 initiative that highlights Hancock’s history of responding to the needs of the people in Hancock County and the surrounding area. With an increasing demand for PET/CT scans, we are working to grow our services through this initiative to help fund the purchase of a PET/CT scanner to have permanently on-site.
