Raise Awareness of Mental Health by Joining #HancockStrong

August 28, 2025

Mental health challenges impact everyone in our community. Even if you yourself have never struggled with depression or anxiety, you likely know someone who has. Here at the Hancock Health Connection Center, we are intentional about raising awareness, connecting people with resources and taking the stigma out of mental health struggles. That is why this month, we are launching a new initiative called #HancockStrong.

September is Suicide Prevention Month and we are all #HancockStrong

As a community, it is our job to uplift those who are struggling and help them connect with supportive and life-changing resources. If you want to learn more about mental health this month, get help, connect with others, earn prizes and create a supportive community together, join us for our free program, #HancockStrong!

Throughout the month, participants will complete mental wellness activities, visit participating agencies and earn prize entries by collecting keywords.

Here’s what you need to know

Grab a booklet – Booklets are free and can be found at the Hancock Health Connection Center as well as all three Hancock Wellness Centers.

Earn points – Your booklet entitles you to one entry in a prize drawing. However, you can get an additional entry for every 10 points you earn. Earn 5 points for each keyword collected at a location, such as the Hancock Health Department, or event (all are listed in the booklet) or 1 point per wellness challenge!

Drop off your booklet – Return your completed booklet to the Hancock Health Connection Center by October 3rd. Winners will be drawn on World Mental Health Day, October 10Th!

Don’t miss out on these important community-wide events this month hosted by the Hancock Health Connection Center!

988 Day – On September 8Th at noon, the Connection Center will host a 988 Day event at Depot Street Park. We need at least 100 participants to help us spell 988 while a drone takes a photo from above. 988 is significant because it is the National Suicide Prevention hotline, something that we know has saved many lives in Hancock County.

Hearts in the Dark Candlelight Vigil – On Tuesday, September 23rd, the Connection Center will provide an opportunity for our community to come together to remember those we have lost to suicide. This will be a night of hope, remembrance and unity and we encourage our whole community to come offer and receive support.

Other community events include:
