Greenfield, IN:<\/strong> Officials at Hancock Health and Peyton Manning Children\u2019s Hospital (PMCH) at Ascension St. Vincent have announced a partnership that will provide an advanced level of newborn care at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield. The new services create a Level II Special Care Nursery that allows for a higher specialty of care for moderately ill infants and babies born as early as 32 weeks\u2019 gestation.<\/p>\n

As of November 1, specially trained neonatal nurse practitioners (NNPs) from PMCH will provide 24\/7 support at Hancock Regional Hospital. The NNPs will also have 24\/7 access and support from neonatologists at PMCH, which hosts the state\u2019s largest Level IV neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).<\/p>\n

Hancock Health President Steve Long said the new services offer greater peace of mind for families delivering at Hancock Regional Hospital and allows delivering mothers and families that extra care for their baby without having to drive a long distance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a great team of physicians, nurses, and associates, and most babies born here don\u2019t need extra care. But it\u2019s great to know that, if your baby does need more help, it\u2019s available just a few steps away,\u201d Long said.<\/p>\n

According to Dr. Julia Compton, Hancock Health AVP, Oncology Service Line and Physician Executive Council, the Level II nursery gives Hancock the ability to care for infants who need oxygen, IV fluids or medications, help with feeding, or just some extra care or supervision before going home.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd if a newborn needs an even higher level of care, it\u2019s available through our connection with PMCH,\u201d she said. \u201cIt gives us access to Indiana\u2019s best-equipped facility for babies with complex medical needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
