It can be due to irritation or disease. A breast rash can be itchy, scaly, painful or blistered.<\/p>\n<p>Some rashes occur only on the breast. But most breast rashes have the same possible causes as rashes on other parts of the body.<\/p>\n<p>Causes of a rash that occurs only on the breast include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Breast abscess<\/li>\n<li>Inflammatory breast cancer <\/li>\n<li>Mammary duct ectasia <\/li>\n<li>Mastitis (an infection in breast tissue)<\/li>\n<li>Nipple dermatitis<\/li>\n<li>Paget&#8217;s disease of the breast <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Causes of a rash on the breast that can also occur on any part of the body include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Atopic dermatitis (eczema) <\/li>\n<li>Candidiasis (especially under the breasts)<\/li>\n<li>Cellulitis (a skin infection)<\/li>\n<li>Dermatitis <\/li>\n<li>Hives and angioedema <\/li>\n<li>Psoriasis <\/li>\n<li>Scabies <\/li>\n<li>Seborrheic dermatitis <\/li>\n<li>Shingles <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Make an appointment<\/h3>\n<p>A breast rash is rarely an emergency. But make an appointment with a healthcare professional if your breast rash doesn&#8217;t respond to self-care or if you also have:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fever.<\/li>\n<li>Severe pain.<\/li>\n<li>Sores that won&#8217;t heal.<\/li>\n<li>Streaks coming from the rash.<\/li>\n<li>Yellow or green fluid oozing from the rash.<\/li>\n<li>Skin that&#8217;s peeling off.<\/li>\n<li>A history of breast cancer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Seek emergency medical care<\/strong> if your rash comes with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Difficulty breathing, chest tightness or swelling in the throat.<\/li>\n<li>A rapid worsening of symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Self-care for breast rash<\/h3>\n<p>In the meantime, you may find some relief from your symptoms with these measures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take a cool bath or put a cool washcloth over the rash for a few minutes. Do this a few times a day if it helps ease your symptoms.<\/li>\n<li>Use a gentle soap in the shower to clean the area. After you shower, apply a gentle moisturizing cream free of fragrances. Do this while your skin is still damp. Don&#8217;t use fragranced products such as body washes, soaps and creams on the rash.<\/li>\n<li>Take care of your skin. Don&#8217;t scratch the rash.<\/li>\n<li>Think about recent behaviors that may have caused your rash. Have you tried a new soap? Have you been wearing scratchy clothing?
