The roar of lawn mowers and\nsnick-snick of hedge trimmers emerging from a long winter garage?<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Or,\nperhaps, the onset of sneezing, watery eyes, and the other symptoms of spring\nallergies?<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>If you said \u201callergies,\u201d you\u2019re far from alone. According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aafa.org\/allergy-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u30bf\u30d6\u3067\u958b\u304d\u307e\u3059)\">Allergy and Asthma Foundation of America (AAFA)<\/a>, more than 50 million Americans suffer from allergies; in fact, allergies are the sixth-leading cause of chronic illness in the U.S. And allergies can be especially bad in the spring, when two major types of allergens\u2014tree pollen and mold spores\u2014wreak havoc.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Say hey to hay fever<\/h4>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Trees produce pollen cells that are carried on the breeze and right into your nostrils\u2014and if you\u2019re allergic, that\u2019s bad news. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aaaai.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u30bf\u30d6\u3067\u958b\u304d\u307e\u3059)\">American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (AAAAI)<\/a> lists 11 types of trees that are the major spring hay fever culprits:<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-list core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Ash<\/li><li>Birch<\/li><li>Cypress<\/li><li>Elm<\/li><li>Hickory<\/li><li>Maple<\/li><li>\u30aa\u30fc\u30af<\/li><li>Poplar<\/li><li>Sycamore<\/li><li>Walnut<\/li><li>Western red\n     cedar<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>If you\u2019re\nallergic, you\u2019re probably in for sneezing, itching, and congestion when these\ntrees are releasing pollen. You may find some relief on cloudy or rainy\ndays\u2014but when it\u2019s sunny and warm, especially when it\u2019s windy, you may be\nmiserable.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">When the mold gets bold<\/h4>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>That would be spring, also. As trees release pollen, mold releases spores\u2014seeds that are carried on the wind and can cause the same kinds of allergic reactions. Some of the most common molds that cause hay fever are alternaria, which typically grows on plants, wood, and grasses; cladosporium, often found anywhere moisture is present, including damp walls and leaky pipes; and hormodendrum, a soil fungus that thrives in wet weather.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Surviving the season <\/h4>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Can you\nget relief from spring allergies? Perhaps. A few suggestions that can help:<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-list core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Keep windows and doors\nclosed<\/li><li>Install allergy\nfilters on your furnace and air conditioning units<\/li><li>Wash your clothes\nand shower after you\u2019ve been exposed to pollen or spores<\/li><li>Consider waiting to\ndo yard work or exercise outside on days when pollen counts are low<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>You might also try nasal irrigation\u2014that is, rinsing your nasal passages\nwith salty water\u2014with a neti pot or squeeze bottle. You can make your own\nsaline mix with iodine-free salt (three heaping teaspoons) and baking soda (one\nrounded teaspoon) per cup of distilled or boiled water. It\u2019s important to use\ndistilled or boiled water (after it\u2019s returned to room temperature) to help\nprevent infection.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>There are also pharmaceutical options that may help you: antihistamines\nlike Benadryl and Claritin, decongestants like Afrin and Actifed, nasal\ncorticosteroid sprays like Flonase and Nasonex\u2014and even allergy shots.\nDepending on the approach, you may get some relief quickly. But some of these\nallergy-fighting tactics can take days, weeks even months or years before you\nfully realize the results.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Your best bet: Ask <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hancockhealth.org\/ja\/find-a-doctor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (\u65b0\u3057\u3044\u30bf\u30d6\u3067\u958b\u304d\u307e\u3059)\">your Hancock Health physician<\/a> if any of these or other treatments may be right for you.
