{"id":12987,"date":"2020-04-03T19:14:04","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T23:14:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hancockregionalhospital.org\/?p=12987"},"modified":"2026-01-16T12:42:12","modified_gmt":"2026-01-16T17:42:12","slug":"coronavirus-update-april-3-2020","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hancockhealth.org\/ja\/2020\/04\/coronavirus-update-april-3-2020\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus Update: April 3, 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">On this first Friday in April, the Governor extended the \u201cstay at home\u201d order for an additional two weeks; the President issued a \u201cdisaster declaration\u201d for the state of Indiana (which opens up new funding streams); and the federal government appears to be supporting the wearing of masks in public in regions where COVID-19 prevalence is high.<\/p>\n<p>At Hancock Health, today was the second day of wearing \u201cwashable clothing\u201d and the first day of wearing masks in all areas.\u00a0 Hopefully you had a chance to ask questions of your department directors and found a mask to your liking. I will say that, while I enjoy the look of my checkered flag mask, it will take a bit of time to get used to actually wearing it.\u00a0 If anyone has a good solution to the eyeglass-fogging that comes along with mask-wearing, please let me know <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"CToWUd\" src=\"https:\/\/mail.google.com\/mail\/e\/1f60a\" alt=\"\ud83d\ude0a\" width=\"35\" height=\"35\" data-goomoji=\"1f60a\" data-image-whitelisted=\"\" \/>.\u00a0 If you didn\u2019t see it yesterday, please take a moment to check out the following\u00a0 video that proves smiles can even penetrate a mask:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/403493590\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" will notice some new banners around our locations today.\u00a0 The first notes that \u201cHeroes Work Here\u201d and provide a way for warmhearted folks passing by to recognize this fact with a toot on their horn.\u00a0 The second are banners on the main campus noting where we have designated three parking spots at the far corner of the front lot for community members who wish to hold us up in prayer.\u00a0 I am hopeful that, as the word spreads, at least one of these spots will be filled 24\/7.<\/p>\n<p>The next update will come on Monday as we provide another breather for the leadership team.\u00a0 If you have the opportunity, please take advantage of the weekend to refresh and reinvigorate!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0 Our efforts to reduce our regular patient care volumes as much as possible has worked and we are currently at the lowest inpatient census and outpatient visit level of the last ten years and are well-placed to handle a surge of COVID patients<\/li>\n<li>The Hancock Triage Clinic, Hancock COVID Triage hotline (317-325-2683 (COVD), and <a href=\"mailto:nurse@hancockregional.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nurse@hancockregional.org <\/a>email lines continue to provide needed service to the community during this time.<\/li>\n<li>Work to retrofit the Reflections unit to our first COVID care unit will be completed on Monday when it is stocked for the new purpose.\u00a0 Additional surge plans are being finalized that include in-house and off-site locations including our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gatewayhancockhealth.org\">\u30b2\u30fc\u30c8\u30a6\u30a7\u30a4<\/a> facility as a last resort.<\/li>\n<li>The end of in-person patient visitation has gone well and we have used generous community as well who are finding and bringing in additional supplies.\u00a0 Should you have folks in the community who would like to donate to the cause, please have them contact Nancy Davis at <a href=\"mailto:ndavis@hancockregional.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">ndavis@hancockregional.org<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>We have developed a temporary transportation team and a food delivery team to help our patients to receive food items and make it to their health care appointments since other transportation options are closing for a while.\u00a0 If you have patients that need transportation assistance, please contact Amanda Everidge at <a href=\"mailto:Aeveridge@hancockregional.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Aeveridge@hancockregional.org.<\/a><\/li>\n<li>We have made arrangements with Fairfield Inn to house hospital associates and medical staff, as well as first-responders in the community, who need temporary housing if they are concerned about carrying the virus home with them.\u00a0 Hancock Health is covering the cost of these rooms and additional information will be forthcoming early
