Something of a treat.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Not anymore. <\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Now, as Hoosiers hunker down with their families\nand pets at home to help to stop the spread of the coronavirus, the thought of\nspending yet another day working and living in the same place might seem downright\nstressful. We miss our offices, friends, and colleagues, going out to dinner\u2014and\nour kids even miss school. Frankly, <em>we<\/em> miss them going to school because\nnow we\u2019re homeschooling\u2014or, at least, trying to.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>All of these changes came quickly and without much\nwarning. And we\u2019re not quite sure when it will end, releasing us back to our\ndaily routines.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>So if you\u2019re feeling anxious, lonely, depressed, or\nbored, it\u2019s not unusual. Or maybe you\u2019re caught up in fear of a catastrophe: That\u2019s\nokay, too. There are skills and steps to take that will help keep those negative\nemotions in check. But how, especially at a time like this?<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cAll of us react to stress in different ways, and\nthis influences how we feel,\u201d said Dr. Benjamin McAllister of Hancock\nCounseling and Psychiatric Services. \u201cAs we begin this potential marathon, it\nis helpful to have skills and strategies in our emotional toolbox.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Here are a few of Dr. McAllister\u2019s tips:<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-list core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Maintain a routine with a consistent bedtime and morning alarm. <\/li><li>Get out of your pajamas and get dressed. It will help you maintain a healthy schedule. <\/li><li>Stay informed but listen, watch, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2020\/03\/19\/world\/coronavirus-stay-positive-online-scli-intl-wellness\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">read the news<\/a> in moderation. Don\u2019t let the news of the day take over. Also, don\u2019t believe everything you hear: Seek out reputable news sources.<\/li><li>Maintain social distance and go outside and exercise, even if that means a simple walk around the block.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2020\/03\/17\/style\/zoom-parties-coronavirus-memes.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">Use technology<\/a> to stay connected with friends, family, and community.<\/li><li>Eat healthy foods.<\/li><li>Challenge your negative thoughts with positive, optimistic ones.<\/li><li>If you\u2019re a religious person, remind yourself of your faith.<\/li><li>Use meditation, mindfulness, and other relaxation techniques. You can even download <a href=\"https:\/\/thewirecutter.com\/reviews\/best-meditation-apps\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">apps<\/a> to help.<\/li><li>Spend time on your hobbies or explore a new one. Unstructured time is important, too.<\/li><li>Avoid unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as alcohol.<\/li><li>Create a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/coronavirus\/2019-ncov\/prepare\/get-your-household-ready-for-COVID-19.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (ouvre dans un nouvel onglet)\">plan<\/a> in case someone in your home becomes ill; just having one alleviates anxiety. <\/li><li>Consider having a weekly family meeting where you can check in and see how everyone is feeling. <\/li><\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>These are just a few tactics that can be used to\nreduce stress at this difficult time.
