Hancock Regional Hospital\u2019s tiniest patients<\/a> are already benefiting from an advanced level of newborn care, made possible by a new partnership between Hancock Regional and the Peyton Manning Children\u2019s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/div>
\n

The partnership, which began in November, creates a Level II Special Care Nursery at Hancock Regional<\/a>. The new nursery is specially equipped for moderately ill infants and babies born as early as 32 weeks\u2019 gestation. It allows Hancock Regional to care for infants who need oxygen, IV fluids or medications, help with feeding, or just some extra care or supervision before going home.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/div>
\n

\u201cAnd if a newborn needs an even higher level of care, it\u2019s available through our connection with Peyton Manning<\/a> Children\u2019s Hospital,\u201d said Dr. Julia Compton, assistant vice president, Hancock Physician Network. \u201cIt gives us access to Indiana\u2019s best-equipped facility for babies with complex medical needs.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

Peyton Manning Children\u2019s Hospital neonatal nurse practitioners are also on-site at Hancock Regional; when the nurse practitioners need it, they have constant access to the children’s hospital\u2019s neonatologists. <\/p>\n<\/div>

\n

That offers delivering mothers and their families more peace of mind, said Steve Long, president of Hancock Health.<\/p>\n<\/div>

\n\n<\/div>
\n

\u201cWe have a great team of physicians, nurses, and associates, and most babies born here don\u2019t need extra care,\u201d said Long. \u201cBut it\u2019s great to know that, if your baby does need more help, it\u2019s available just a few steps away.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Peyton Manning Children\u2019s Hospital at Ascension St. Vincent<\/a> is a full-service children\u2019s medical center. The hospital has more than 160 beds, including a 15-bed pediatric intensive care unit, 17-bed pediatric emergency department and a 99-bed neonatal intensive care unit\u2014the largest Level IV NICU in Indiana, providing the highest level of acute care. The children\u2019s hospital treats patients from all over the state, providing 24-hour, on-site coverage by pediatric hospitalists, intensivists, neonatologists, and board-certified emergency physicians.<\/p>\n<\/div>
