Having cancer can be one of the most stressful experiences in a person\u2019s life. From losing the daily ability to function and take care of themselves to processing grief, fear and other challenging emotions, this is a disease that takes a toll on mind, body AND soul. Coping with these obstacles is possible, however, with the support of family, friends and even a support group to guide the way. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Cancer support groups provide patients with peace and community in turbulent times<\/h2>\n<\/div>
\n\n<\/div>
\n

Support groups are helpful because they provide a shared experience to cancer patients. Those who are going through\u2014or have endured\u2014the same challenges you are now facing can give you advice and uplift you in a way that others in your life may find difficult. This alone creates a foundation for more ease and even trust in the process as you go through treatments, a myriad of doctor\u2019s appointments, surgeries and more. <\/p>\n<\/div>

Hancock Health offers community support groups covering a variety of topics, including both traditional and creative cancer groups:<\/p>\n<\/div>

The Cancer Support Group<\/strong> <\/h3>\n<\/div>
\n\n<\/div>
\n

This group meets on Mondays in the Resource Lounge of the Cancer Center <\/a>from 11:00am-12:00pm. It has become a safe space for many adult patients to share their experience with the emotional, physical and mental aspects of cancer. This group is for all adult patients who are currently in treatment or have completed theirs. There is no registration required.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Coping with Crafts<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>
\n\n<\/div>
\n

This group is held on the 3rd Friday of each month from 10:00am-12:00pm in the Conference Room on the second floor of the Cancer Center. Each month, participants take part in an arts and crafts activity. It has been found to be a perfect way to release creative energies, as well as any stress.  This group is open to all adult cancer patients as well as their family and friends.  All materials are provided for this free group, but attendees must register at least a week in advance as craft supplies are limited. When it comes to supporting cancer patients and their families, Salud Hancock<\/a> is providing state-of-the-art medicine and treatment as well as support groups to provide a holistic healing environment.
