Hancock Health announced today it has received a grant totaling $150,000 from the Indiana Department of Health to improve cardiovascular health as part of the state\u2019s Health Issues and Challenges program, which was established by the Indiana General Assembly in 2021 with funding from the American Rescue Plan Act.<\/p>\n

Hancock Health will utilize these funds to provide education on hypertension and self-monitoring blood pressure programming. Hypertension is one of the leading causes of stroke and cardiovascular disease. Self-monitoring your blood pressure is one of the easiest ways to identify hypertension, early identification can lead to prevention of further complications. This program will be available to Hancock and surrounding counties. Supplies will be limited but we anticipate serving about 250-500 individuals over the next two years. Hancock anticipates further program details and implementation to occur in late fall of 2022.<\/p>\n

Hancock Physician Network\u2019s Clinical Coordinator for Chronic Care Management, , Melissa Rumple, was able to secure the funding for the program after applying for the grant through the Health Issues and Challenges, American Rescue Plan Act.<\/p>\n

We are honored to be one of the organizations to receive this funding from the Indiana Department of Health. It is just one more way Hancock Health is making health possible for East Central Indiana and beyond,\u201d said Brian Muckerheide, CEO of Hancock Physician Network.<\/p>\n

Hancock Health is one of more than 150 entities to receive funding for the Health Issues and Challenges program, which focuses on the following priority areas: tobacco use, food insecurity\/obesity, lead exposure, hepatitis C, chronic disease, public health prevention programs, and substance use disorder and community health workers. Priority was given to applicants that demonstrated high need and high impact in their grant proposals.<\/p>\n

The state awarded more than $35 million statewide in the initial round of funding.<\/p>\n
