Tambi\u00e9n asisti\u00f3 a la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Indiana y complet\u00f3 su t\u00edtulo de m\u00e9dico en 1995. El Dr. Capen complet\u00f3 su pasant\u00eda y residencia en Community Hospital de Indian\u00e1polis en 1998.
