Maybe you\u2019re a long-term caregiver for a family member or loved one. Or perhaps you\u2019re just kept busy with family, work, and life obligations. Whatever you\u2019re facing, it can be difficult to\u2014well, face it. But forcing yourself to engage with the problem or whatever is bothering you may not always be the right answer. In fact, sometimes a little healthy avoidance can be just the distraction you need to give your mind a break. That way, when the time comes to face the issues for real, you\u2019re ready to take them on.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Moments of Distraction Are Not a Bad Thing.<\/h4>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>You don\u2019t always have to face whatever\u2019s troubling you right away. Mindful thinking can help guide you through some healthy avoidance and distract you from the anxiety and stress associated with the problem. For example, maybe you\u2019re stressed about an upcoming visit from family members. Through mindful thinking, you can put the visit in perspective\u2014it\u2019s in the future, not in the present moment, so why worry about something that hasn\u2019t even happened yet? Additionally, you can also think about what you need to do to prepare yourself for the visit\u2014an example of this might be organizing your thoughts into what tasks need to be completed prior to the visit and when you can reasonably finish them.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Dr. Benjamin McAllister, an adult outpatient psychiatrist at Hancock Health, has his own tips for mindfulness.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>\u201cI tell my patients this is a marathon and not a sprint, and our team is here for the marathon,\u201d said Dr. McAllister. \u201cYou can practice mindfulness on your own by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hancockhealth.org\/de\/2020\/02\/mindfulness-exercises-to-do-just-about-anywhere-2\/\">focusing your breathing <\/a>Und <a href=\"https:\/\/www.calm.com\/blog\/5-4-3-2-1-a-simple-exercise-to-calm-the-mind#:~:text=The%2054321%20(or%205%2C%204,1%20thing%20you%20can%20taste.\">paying attention to your senses<\/a> to put you in the present moment.
