Both required immediate medical attention for their clot, but only found out about the other&#8217;s story one day on the sidelines of the go-kart racetrack when they were subsequently not racing that year. Steve and Jamie are now on the other side of their clot stories and want to spread awareness and help others to know the signs and act fast.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Watch their story <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/W4UHhHVYnLY\">Hier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Understanding Blood Clots<\/h2>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>The CDC reports that nearly 900,000 people are affected by blood clots each year in the U.S. and a 100,000 die from complications. Moreover, three in 10 people who have had blood clots will most likely have another episode within 10 years. <\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>Mayo Clinic notes that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mayoclinic.org\/symptoms\/blood-clots\/basics\/definition\/sym-20050850\">blood clots<\/a> are gel-like clumps of blood. They are made when substances in the blood thicken and form a semisolid mass. They form in response to a cut or other injury; they stop the bleeding by plugging the injured blood vessel. These blood clots help the body heal.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-paragraph core-paragraph\">\n<p>But some blood clots form inside the veins without a good reason. They don&#8217;t dissolve naturally. Once these clots form, they can travel to other parts of the body where they can cause harm. There are a variety of factors and conditions that can cause troublesome blood clots, and they may require medical attention, especially if they are in the legs, lungs, or brain.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Blood clot symptoms include:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-list core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Schwellung<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Redness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Warmth<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Schmerz<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change in skin color, such as an area of the leg that looks unusually red or purple<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cough that produces bloody sputum<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A fast heartbeat<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lightheadedness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Difficult or painful breathing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chest pain or tightness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sudden weakness or numbness of the face, arm, or leg<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sudden difficulty speaking or understanding speech<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>To reduce the risk of developing blood clots, try these self-care tips:<\/strong><\/h4>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-list core-list\">\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Avoid sitting for long period: Especially if you travel by airplane, or for long car or bus trips \u2013 walk the aisle occasionally and\/or stop frequently to walk around<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Move: Especially after you have had surgery or have been on bed rest, the sooner you move the better<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hydrate: Dehydration can increase the risk of blood clots<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Lifestyle changes: Stop smoking, exercise regularly, maintain a healthy weight, lower high blood pressure<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress- core-\">\n\n<\/div><div class=\"container mx-auto   wordpress-block wordpress-heading core-heading\">\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Some of the serious conditions that can be associated with blood clots
