A cancer survivor is anyone living with a history of\u00a0cancer \u2013 from the moment of diagnosis through the remainder of\u00a0life. National Cancer Survivors Day in the month of June is a great\u00a0opportunity to recognize and connect with survivors, celebrate\u00a0milestones and recognize those who have supported them along\u00a0the way.<\/p>\n<p>We had a lot to celebrate at the Sue Ann Wortman Cancer Center\u00a0in June. It was the one year anniversary of the opening of our\u00a0beautiful facility.<\/p>\n<p>We are so fortunate to have a caring community that helped build\u00a0our facility which is so welcoming for our patients and their loved\u00a0ones. From the moment you arrive, you are greeted by friendly valet\u00a0staff, smiling volunteers and our passionate and caring staff. The\u00a0facility highlights beautiful lighting, textured walls and comfortable\u00a0furniture. Of note is the stunning water wall and the colorful glass\u00a0flowers that make up our donor wall. It\u2019s a true garden of love and\u00a0hope from our generous community. \u00a0Hearing the words \u201cyou have cancer\u201d is probably one of the scariest\u00a0things to hear. Having such a beautiful facility with such\u00a0compassionate staff and volunteers certainly helps ease one\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n<p>We certainly strive to support and care for our patients and their\u00a0loved ones. Our staff work together to offer state of the art treatment\u00a0in a safe and comfortable environment.<\/p>\n<p>Besides our incredible treatment staff in Radiation Oncology and\u00a0Medical Oncology, we are fortunate to have several services to help\u00a0our patients and their loved ones along their journey:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Boutique Services:\u00a0<\/strong>offers a comfortable place to shop for items\u00a0to help with healing: wigs, swimwear, post-surgical garments,\u00a0compression sleeves, as well as prosthesis and bras billable to\u00a0insurance. We are fortunate to have a Certified Mastectomy\u00a0Fitter on staff too.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Massage Therapy:<\/strong> we have a massage therapist on site every\u00a0other Monday, offering a complimentary massage to new\u00a0patients, as well as hand massages in the chemotherapy area.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dietary Services:<\/strong> we have registered dietitians who introduce\u00a0themselves to newly diagnosed patients so they know who to\u00a0contact for nutritional concerns. They are here to meet with\u00a0patients and help with nutritional needs throughout treatment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Financial Counseling:<\/strong> our Financial Counselor is here to help\u00a0patients with financial concerns, medication expenses, etc. She\u00a0has extensive experience in local and national patient grants,\u00a0drug replacement and drug co-pay assistance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Patient Navigation:<\/strong> we also have RN Patient Navigators in\u00a0Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. They are here to\u00a0work collaboratively with patients and our medical team;\u00a0ensuring patients understand their treatment recommendations\u00a0and help manage their care.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social Services:<\/strong> we have an Oncology Social Worker who\u00a0facilitates our support groups, assists patients with resources,\u00a0addresses emotional needs and oversees our Support Programs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Recently we have added a variety of Support Programs to help\u00a0patients and loved ones along their journey. Here is a sampling of\u00a0the programs we offer, all free of charge:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Cancer Support Group:<\/strong> offered weekly and open to all adult\u00a0cancer patients who are in treatment or have completed\u00a0treatment.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Caregiver Support Group:<\/strong> offered weekly and open to all\u00a0adults caring for a loved one.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mindfulness for Health:<\/strong> offered twice a month to learn how\u00a0to lessen stress, enhance calm, and try simple techniques for\u00a0maintaining a positive attitude and practicing self-care.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Creative Imagery for Health:<\/strong> offered once a month to learn\u00a0how the images we hold in our minds can help us find a sense\u00a0of stability and peace.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gentle Stretch Yoga:<\/strong> open to cancer patients and loved ones.\u00a0Slow and gentle yoga movements to help relax your body and\u00a0mind.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Art Workshops:<\/strong> offered the third Friday of each month and\u00a0open to patients and caregivers.
