Hancock Health has a brand new, high-tech tool for robotically assisted surgeries called the da Vinci 5 Surgical System! Medical technology company, Intuitive Surgical Operations, Inc., describes their da Vinci 5 as, “the most advanced and integrated robotic surgery system ever.” To celebrate, we are asking school-aged kids in Hancock County to help us name the newest member of our surgical team.
Why is the da Vinci 5 such a big deal?
Robotically assisted surgeries are skyrocketing in the U.S. because they are minimally-invasive. This means better outcomes and easier recoveries for patients all over the country. The da Vinci 5 is generally used in procedures for urology, gynecology, thoracic and general surgeries. This robot builds on its predecessors’ features with “more than 150 new design innovations,” and provides wristed instruments, three-dimensional high-definition visualization, intuitive motion, and an ergonomic design.
As with all da Vinci surgical systems, surgeons are 100% in control of the robotic-assisted da Vinci system, which translates their hand movements into smaller, more precise movements of tiny instruments inside the patient’s body. For those science nerds out there, some key enhancements within the da Vinci 5 Surgical System, include:
- first-of-its-kind Force Feedback technology, which can reduce the amount of force on tissue
- optimized vision with truer colors, higher image resolution, and the most realistic da Vinci 3D image
- better ergonomics for greater surgeon comfort and surgical viewing
- more than 10,000x the computing power of da Vinci Xi
Help us name our da Vinci 5 Surgical System!
We are calling on local elementary schools all around Hancock County to help us name our new robot. Coordinated through elementary school principals, our contest will be held from January 6th through the 14th. We are excited to announce that our surgical team will be voting for their favorite name on January 15th through the 17th, and the winning classroom will receive a classroom pizza party and be invited to Hancock Regional Hospital for a naming ceremony! They will also get to see the robot and speak with surgeons about how it works. If you want your school to get involved, please read through the contest rules and contact your school leadership.
